Migraine is a prevalent and disabling condition that affects 12% of adults in the USA.1 The condition is also common in adolescents, with an overall prevalence of over 6%.2 Rates of medical diagnosis increase with age; therefore, migraine is particularly underdiagnosed and undertreated in teenagers.2 Screening tools are useful to improve the recognition of underdiagnosed disorders when specific criteria are met.3 Migraine fulfills many of these criteria—it is a common and disabling public health problem, underdiagnosed but diagnosable, and undertreated but treatable.
