Should angioplasty and stenting be performed before CAGB in patients with asymptomatic carotid stenosis?

Patients undergoing CABG surgery are often screened for asymptomatic carotid artery stenosis, with prophylactic staged or simultaneous carotid endarterectomy (CEA) being a possibility if stenosis is identified in an attempt to reduce the risk of CABG-related stroke. CAS is a possible alternative to CEA; however, it is not clear whether either carotid revascularization procedure is helpful in this setting.
