Rescue breathing provides little additive value to cardiac-only resuscitation in cardiac arrest

Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest has a high fatality rate, particularly if early cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is not given. Bystander CPR can improve survival prospects, but fear, lack of knowledge and cultural factors often prevent bystanders from attempting CPR—it is administered in fewer than 25% of cardiac arrests.
