Short-term benefits of tolvaptan in hospital treatment of heart failure

Arginine vasopressin levels are elevated in heart failure, contributing to fluid retention and, thereby, worse outcomes. The EVEREST trials assessed the use of tolvaptan, a selective vasopressin V2 receptor antagonist, in patients hospitalized for acute heart failure symptoms. Gheorghiade et al. report the outcomes of two identical short-term trials, which took place across 359 medical centers.
