Prosthetic valve endocarditis: current perspectives

Prosthetic valve endocarditis (PVE) is a rare but potentially lethal complication of heart valve replacement. The current clinical profile of PVE is not well defined. As a consequence, Wang et al. used data from a prospective international cohort study (ICE–PCS) to assess the characteristics of PVE, with particular focus on the role of health-care-associated infection.
