The use of family-based strategies by pediatricians to detect cardiovascular risk and prevent early onset of atherosclerotic CVD needs to be pursued and evaluated in greater depth. The study by Reis et al. identifies this clinical opportunity, but also raises the concept of using children as a conduit to reach their parents.
