Exposure to fine airborne particulates increases the risk of a cardiovascular event in women

To quantify the association between long-term exposure to air pollution and cardiovascular events, Miller and colleagues studied 65,893 postmenopausal women who had no history of diagnosed cardiovascular disease. Eligible subjects were participants in the Women's Health Initiative Observational Study. This prospective cohort study enrolled subjects from 36 US cities during the period 1994–1998.
