Sirolimus-eluting and paclitaxel-eluting stents in patients with diabetes: two-year outcomes

Compared with bare-metal stents (BMSs), both sirolimus-eluting stents (SESs) and paclitaxel-eluting stents (PESs) have been shown to reduce the short-term incidence of restenosis and target vessel revascularization in patients with diabetes mellitus. It remains unclear, however, which is the best treatment option with regard to long-term clinical end points such as myocardial infarction and mortality, for which diabetics are at high risk.
