Late reperfusion does not provide benefit after myocardial infarction

Early reperfusion with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is considered a key part of optimum treatment for patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction. Many eligible patients, however, do not undergo reperfusion within the currently accepted time period for myocardial salvage.
