Benefits of cardiac resynchronization therapy in heart failure

A recent systematic review has evaluated the efficacy, effectiveness and safety of cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT; using atrial-synchronized biventricular pacemakers) in patients with heart failure and left ventricular systolic dysfunction. The authors identified 130 studies that met their inclusion criteria; all patients had left ventricular ejection fraction less than or equal to35%, and most (91%) had NYHA class III or IV heart failure despite optimum medical therapy.
