The MRI pulse sequence can be considered as composed of two separate elements: the imaging engine and modifiers. Modifiers can be applied individually or in combination to highlight different biological features. FFE, fast field echo; FIESTA, fast imaging employing steady-state acquisition; SENSE, sensitivity encoding; SMASH, simultaneous acquisition of spatial harmonics; TrueFISP, true fast imaging with steady-state precession.
