Foot in mouth: do focal adhesions disassemble by endocytosis?

Focal adhesions are often considered the 'feet' of cells growing in tissue culture. These structures provide strong attachment to the extracellular matrix (ECM) that underlies a cell's ventral surface and, at their cytoplasmic face, they anchor bundles of actin stress fibres.
