Developmental quiescence: Cdc14 moonlighting in G1

Cell-cycle transitions are controlled by the functions of cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs) in complex with cyclins. CDKs trigger phosphorylation of key cell-cycle proteins but, in certain cases, CDK function is antagonized by the proline-directed phosphatase Cdc14 (refs 2, 3).
