Robbing from the pore

Benjamin L. Timney & Michael P. Rout

A eukaryotic cell uses the NPC to sort macromolecules between the nucleus and cytoplasm, although we know little about how this is achieved. NPCs do this quickly and efficiently, selectively trafficking many kinds of cargo, often as large as ribosomes, while excluding other molecules with relative molecular masses (Mr) of less than |[sim]|40,000.
