Abstract
During meiosis, one round of DNA replication is followed by two rounds of cell division, resulting in four daughter cells with half the number of chromosomes. The first round of cell division, meiosis I, is distinguished from mitosis and meiosis II as the homologous chromosomes — not the sister chromatids — are segregated to opposite poles of the cell.
