Go ahead, break my symmetry!

Polarity is a fundamental feature of almost all cells, and how cells break symmetry to achieve polarity is an important and topical question. The budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae is a good experimental system in this regard because bud formation represents a simple case of polarity.
