The kinetochore NUPtials

P. Todd Stukenberg & Ian G. Macara

Cell division requires exquisite control over the order and location of events; failure to observe this control has dire consequences, including chromosome mis-segregation and aneuploidy. Timing is set by the activation or inactivation of a series of mitotic regulators, but the completion of each event (for example, nuclear envelope breakdown) might also provide a signal for the beginning of the next, ensuring an ordered passage through mitosis.
