Common sense signalling
Abstract
Cellular functions as diverse as proliferation, differentiation and morphogenesis are regulated by changes in the extracellular environment and the ensuing receptor-mediated stimulation or inhibition of signal-transduction cascades. There has been an intense interest in understanding how activation of these signalling cascades is translated into particular cellular responses, and results obtained with the ERK subfamily of MAP kinases provide a good example of the issues that have fascinated so many of us.
