PLC-|[gamma]|: an old player has a new role
Abstract
Over 25 years ago, Michel proposed that PLC is essential for the generation of cellular calcium signals in response to hormones and neurotransmitters. Subsequent studies demonstrated that the molecular basis for this role in calcium signalling involves InsP3, the soluble product of PLC-mediated degradation of phosphatidylinositol-4,5-bisphosphate.
