Ubiquitination, proteasomes and GABAA receptors

Abstract
Ubiquitination of plasma membrane proteins such as growth-factor receptors and ion channels is generally thought to act as a signal for endocytosis of these proteins. Ubiquitin might also act as a sorting signal in early endosomes and mark receptors for degradation by the lysosomal and proteasomal pathways.
