Heterotypic fusion of bone marrow-derived cells (BMDCs) with Purkinje neurons is enhanced by chronic inflammation. Confocal image of a cerebellar sagittal section from a mouse with dermatitis previously transplanted with GFP-expressing bone marrow. The presence of GFP in several heterokaryons (green/yellow) indicates fusion of BMDCs with Purkinje neurons (red, calbindin).
