Abstract
Neuronal stem cells (neural progenitor cells, NPCs) can give rise to astrocytes, neurons and oligodendrocytes. Astrocytes perform many different functions, including providing structural and nutrient support for neurons, secreting signalling molecules, and uptake and metabolism of neurotransmitters.
