Abstract
One of the puzzles about actin-based cellular motility is how directionality is spontaneously imparted in an initially symmetrical situation. A computer model representing actin filaments symmetrically surrounding a bead reproduces the experimentally observed symmetry-breaking and the directed motion of the bead.
