Abstract
Millions of people worldwide suffer visual disability as a result of retinal diseases that involve the loss of photoreceptor cells. Despite considerable recent interest in using embryonic stem (ES) cells to repair the reti-na, mature photoreceptors have proven particularly difficult to generate.
