Genentech faces the consequences of growth
Abstract
When Genentech held its investment community gathering in New York on March 23, there was one overweening question on everyone's mind: what do you do with a biotech company that's too large to be a biotech company and lacks the core competencies to be a pharma? That's the dilemma that S. San Francisco, California–based Genentech is facing. And it's relevant to the industry as a whole because Genentech is biotech's success-story role model in much the same way Microsoft is the software industry's, albeit Microsoft's success is on a much larger scale.
