Chinese manufacturers vie for piece of outsourcing pie

This September, David Smith, leader of the global manufacturing and supply organization for London-based AstraZeneca, made waves after being quoted in UK newspaper The Times as saying that ten years from now, his firm will have completely outsourced its manufacturing, which would include accessing India and China “in a much more meaningful way.” In the subsequent days AstraZeneca scrambled its spin machine, “clarifying” that the comments “were taken out of context.
