This focus presents the first formal results of the MicroArray Quality Control (MAQC) project, an unprecedented, community-wide effort, under the auspices of the FDA, with the goal of experimentally addressing the key issues surrounding the reliability of DNA microarray data and establishing operational metrics to objectively assess the performance of seven microarray platforms. Ultimately, it is hoped that the MAQC effort will provide the research and regulatory communities with a foundation from which to derive the necessary guidelines for using microarrays in clinical practice and regulatory decision-making.
