The 2007 Miami Winter Symposium: Innate Immunity and Novel Vaccines, Miami Beach Resort & Spa, Miami Beach, Florida, USA
January 27-31, 2007
Broader understanding of the central mechanisms underlying innate recognition of microbes and activation of the adaptive immune response is opening new opportunities for vaccine and adjuvant design. The 40th Miami Winter Symposium will examine recent advances in research on innate pattern-recognition receptors and adaptive immune responses and how this research is being translated into the development of new prophylactic and therapeutic approaches.

Fall 2006 Academic Conference
Creating and Managing the Biotechnology Venture
October 12, 2006
This conference will bring together academicians and practitioners who study and work in the biotechnology and healthcare industry. Founding and growing a biotechnology venture is no more difficult than developing any other type of entrepreneurial high-technology venture. However, the challenges are different in the life sciences area. This short conference will be the first to bring together rigorous academic analyses to gain insights into the emerging area of biotechnology management and entrepreneurship. Discussions among participants in this context will better inform theoretical analysis and should lead to improved success in the practice of these principles in industry. Accepted academic presentations will be followed by practitioner-discussants. Panel discussions will encourage debate and dialogue among presented viewpoints. Publication opportunities from this conference will capture and reflect on this dialogue between theory and practice.
The 2006 Miami Nature Biotechnology Winter Symposium Angiogenesis in Cancer and Vascular Disease Wyndham Miami Beach Resort Hotel, Miami Beach, Florida
February 4-8, 2006
Increasing interest in the molecular mechanisms of blood (angiogenesis) and lymphatic (lymphangiogenesis) vessel formation and function are spurring research aimed at therapies for cancer and vascular disease. The Miami Winter Symposium, which is organized by the University of Miami, The Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, Scripps Florida and Nature Publishing Group, will bring together leaders from academia and industry to discuss the issues surrounding signal transduction in vessel development, the identification of new drug targets, the design of both experimental stem cell/tissue engineering therapies and traditional small molecule and monoclonal antibody therapeutics, as well as the application of new technologies to study angiogenesis.

Therapeutic Applications of Computational Biology
Wellcome Trust Conference Center, Hinxton, Cambridge, UK
September 4-6, 2005
Computational biology is of key strategic importance to industry; it is used at all stages of the drug discovery and development pipeline, from target identification through to regulatory approval. This conference will explore not only how computational biology can expedite the development of new therapeutic, diagnostic and prognostic approaches, but also how we can work towards and solving current challenges in this field. The conference is coorganized by the European Bioinformatics Institute and Nature Biotechnology and will be of interest to anyone who is developing or using computational approaches to therapeutics development, as well as key decision makers in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.
