CSIR
Postdoctoral Researchers: Molecular Biology or Biochemistry or Structural Biology

CSIR Biosciences (Pretoria Campus) has vacancies for 2 Postdoctoral Researchers in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology or Structural Biology. The Postdoctoral Researchers will form part of the Aptamer Technology Research Group which exploits the aptamer technology to develop novel anti-HIV drugs and rapid TB diagnostics. Technical work would involve the detailed planning and execution of experimental work in the area of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Structural Biology related to HIV or TB recombinant proteins and RNA aptamers. Both positions would involve information transfer within the Biosciences Unit and with both local and international collaborators. This will require excellent communication skills in both verbal and written English and the ability to convey technical information accurately and clearly at meetings or in reports, to personnel with backgrounds in different disciplines.

The minimum educational requirement would be a Doctoral degree (PhD) in Biochemistry/Structural Biology or Molecular Biology. A knowledge and appreciation of the relevant scientific disciplines required in the development of biologically active molecular entities as well as practical laboratory experience and computer literacy including MS/Open Source packages, data analysis and interpretation as well as a strong work ethic (e.g. accountability and reliability) and the ability to work autonomously within a team environment and mentoring skills will be required. Experience in recombinant protein expression and purification, TB Biomedical Research, Structural Biology or Surface Plasmon Resonance Technology (BiAcore) will be an added advantage. The following competencies are critical for this position: innovation, sound technical knowledge, integrity and lateral thinking ability, knowledge and appreciation of a cross disciplinary project team environment, communication skills and the ability to contribute across the boundaries imposed by classical scientific disciplines.

The Postdoctoral positions will be for 1 year in the first instance, with a possibility of renewal based on performance.

Online Ref: 107029 : Postdoctoral Researchers: Molecular Biology or Biochemistry or Structural Biology

Don't forget to mention naturejobs when replying to this advert
