*brighton & sussex medical school*

*Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Neurosciences*

*Ref: 725*

Lecturer (Grade 8): £36,532 to £43,622 per annum

Senior Lecturer (Grade 9): £44,930 to £52,086 per annum

The level of the appointment, and therefore the salary, will be related to the skills, experience and track record of the applicant.

Brighton and Sussex Medical School is pleased to offer a new Faculty position in the Division of Clinical and Laboratory Investigation. Applications are invited from outstanding biomedical (non-clinical) scientists with research interests in the field of neuroscience or related area. The successful applicant will be expected to have initiated or established a successful independent programme of research that will complement research work currently being undertaken in BSMS. This post will complement a range of research initiatives undertaken by BSMS including the recent appointment of the RM Phillips Chair in Experimental Medicine (Professor Ghezzi) and partnership in the Sussex Centre for Consciousness Science. Ideally applicants should be publishing or continuing to publish their work in high impact quality journals, have the ability to attract independent sources of funding and supervise postgraduate and postdoctoral research staff within their research programme. Further details of the very active and dynamic research undertaken within the division are available on the Medical School website (http://www.bsms.ac.uk).

BSMS is committed to excellence in teaching at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and therefore a further prerequisite of the post is a contribution to the teaching of neuroscience to undergraduate medical students. Applicants should be able to fully contribute to the delivery and evolution of neuroscience aspects of the BSMS undergraduate curriculum which is vertically integrated through the 5 year course. Experience of teaching medical students would be advantageous. The successful candidates will be expected to undertake teaching using a variety of modalities including interactive lectures, tutorials and symposia and where appropriate practical laboratory classes. Additionally, there will be a requirement to participate in generation of student course material, undertake academic tutoring duties and offer student selected components (SSCs) and student research projects.

Further particulars are available from Professor Pietro Ghezzi, Head of the Division of Clinical and Laboratory Investigation (Email: p.ghezzi@bsms.ac.uk; Telephone 01273 873112)
