    <![CDATA[The Biopharmaceutical Development Program (BDP), of SAIC-Frederick, Inc., supports the National Cancer Institute (NCI) through the development of novel agents for first-in-man clinical study. Excellent opportunity for a Development Scientist to conduct and coordinate process development of production processes for biopharmaceuticals including monoclonal antibody, plasmid DNA vaccines, and therapeutic proteins. Will develop methods for the production purification, fermentation and testing of new process formulas, technologies and products. Provides expertise in cell culture purification, process scale-up, engineering, design and implementation of manufacturing process. Will also direct the development process formulas and technologies to achieve cost effectiveness and improved product quality. Determines methods and procedures on new assignments. Supervise other development engineers and/or associates with providing guidance. Coordinates the efforts with other departments regarding safety, GMP, space, budgets, and equipment. Writing, reviewing, and approving project report, SOP’s, and Batch Production Records. Frequently interacts with subordinates, supervisors, customers, and/or functional peer groups. 

Requires a Ph.D. from an accredited college/university in a scientific discipline. Foreign educated candidates who have completed part or all of their education outside of the United States must have their foreign education evaluated by an SAIC-approved accrediting organization to assure that it has met the equivalency of the qualifications of degree work in the United States. In addition to the education requirements, a minimum of five years related experience beyond the Ph.D., is required. Must have experience working on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors and the ability to exercise judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Experience with a variety of production technology and scale-up for clinical manufacturing required. A complete understanding and experience with biological processes as it relates to fermentation, cell culture operation and downstream purification, formulation and chemical / biochemical characterization desired. Experience with bioprocesses development including E. coli fermentation, mammalian cell culture, recovery, protein or antibody purification with viral clearance preferred. Large scale industrial and GMP experiences are a plus. Skills associated with biochemical engineering, engineering scale-up, and solving engineering problems are desired. Personnel skill interacting as a team member to coordinate an organized effort is desired.  This position is subject to obtaining a Public Trust Clearance.
