<![CDATA[*A one-year industrial Postdoctoral fellow position is immediately available at BioMérieux S. A.* to conduct research on the identification of Bacteria microcolonies using RAMAN-SERS spectroscopy. This research is conducted in collaboration with 4 partners: Horiba Jobin Yvon a leading manufacturer of spectroscopic instruments, the CEA-LIST (Saclay), CEA-LETI (Grenoble) and the LNIO from UTT of Troyes University. The job will take place both at BioMérieux and CEA-LETI, both located close to the Minatec technology Campus (http://www.minatec.com/en) in Grenoble (France), To apply, please contact directly Denis Leroux, program Coordinator by email (denis.leroux@biomérieux.com) or by phone at +33 (0) 4 78 87 74 37.

*BioMérieux.* Global player in the field of in vitro diagnostics for 45 years, bioMérieux is present in more than 150 countries trough 38 subsidiaries and a large network of distributors. In 2007, the turnover of bioMerieux amounted to 1 billion euros, of which 84% was achieved abroad. BioMerieux provides diagnostic solutions (reagents, instruments and software) that determine the cause of a disease or contamination to improve the health of patients and ensure consumer safety. Our products are used in the diagnosis of infectious diseases and bring the results to high medical value for emergency cardiovascular screening and monitoring of cancer. They are also used for the detection of micro-organisms in food products, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. BioMerieux is a company listed on Euronext Paris.

*Candidate profile.* The candidate must hold a PhD thesis centered on RAMAN analysis (ideally an analytical chemistry profile) and, as a plus, a specific expertise in analyzing living organisms. Beside acquiring and interpreting data, he/she will play an important role as an internal consultant to help solving RAMAN-specific problems and interfacing with the “RAMAN community” through his connections.

*Subject.* We open a new programme to study potential applications of Raman and SERS spectroscopy to the characterization of bacteria in their culture medium.
The ultimate goal is to identify bacteria from the smallest possible colonies in the culture, and to collect information on their response to potential treatments in their early stages of development.
The candidate will set up an experiment plan to determine the configuration offering the best signal from bacterial colonies and the lowest contribution of the culture gel in bulk Raman and in SERS. A thorough validation will be performed on many different species.

*Environment.* BioMérieux is located in Grenoble, in a strongly international environment.
Grenoble is an active city with an intense and diverse cultural life. The alpine slopes are within 1/2 hour from the city centre and offer the widest range of outdoor activities.
