The objective in creating this position was to strengthen and extend research activities in the field of musculoskeletal medicine, with special focus on bone. The successful candidate is expected to work on a state-of-the-art basic subject in bone or skeletal research, for example mechanisms and modulation of pathological degradation of bone (osteoporosis), or regeneration of bone, or interactions of novel implants with extracellular matrix and their stable anchorage in bone.

The successful candidate will have an internationally recognized research experience in the field of bone and skeleton research as reflected by outstanding publications, continuous recruitment of qualified, i.e. peer-reviewed funding (e.g. grants by national or international research foundations (incl EU grants) or by ministry of research) as well as by a high degree of national and international co-operations and networking.

Cooperations are expected especially within the "Center of Musculoskeletal Medicine.

The successful candidate will be Head of the section of bone and skeleton research, including the laboratory for biomechanics at the institute of Experimental Musculoskeletal Medicine, and serve as a vice-chairman of the institute.

The section of bone and skeleton research of the IEMM has a state-of-the-art equipment that in addition to the complete infrastructure for cellular and molecular biology also includes a modern biomechanical laboratory (with a Kuka robot, severa materal testing devices incl. an Instron 8874) as well as a motion laboratory.

Prerequisite for the application are scientific achievements as a junior professor, from a postdoctoral lecture qualification (habilitation), as a research scientist at a school of higher education/university, at non-university institutes, industry, administration, or other fields of society within or outside Germany, as well as expertise in actual teaching methods and ideas of creative embedding into the established university curriculum.

Applications of women are specifically invited. In the case of similar qualification, competence, and specific achievements, women will be considered on preferential terms within the framework of the legal possibilities.
