The Department of Thoracic Surgery of the University Medical Center Freiburg/Germany, is seeking a distinguished scientist for the position of a

*W 3-Professor for Research in Oncological Thoracic Surgery*

to be filled as soon as possible. The main focus lies upon experimental research in thoracic oncology, geared to clinically relevant surgical problems especially to early and regional metastases. Research will be focused on tumours of the chest and especially concentrate on lung carcinomas while other solid tumors might also be considered. The main focus will be on the characterization of prognostic factors, prediction of treatment response or the mechanisms of invasion and metastasis. The research professorship is an integral part of the Comprehensive Cancer Center Freiburg (CCCF). A strengthening of the scientific focuses of the Medical Faculty - with an emphasis on "Oncology and Functional Genetics" - is expected.

Applicants are expected to have a university degree in Medicine or Biology, a postdoctoral lecturing qualification (Habilitation) or equivalent scientific expertise, several years of experience in leading a research group, to have demonstrated the ability to procure substantial funding as well as to possess experience in teaching and supervision of Ph.D. students.

The position will be limited to six years. According to § 50 para. 2 State University Law (Landeshochschulgesetz) after a successful evaluation at the end of this initial period a tenure position can be granted without a new appointment procedure.
