To research and develop algorithms as a computational biologist in cancer pathogen discovery. Specifically, to analyze next-generation DNA and cDNA sequencing data from high-throughput projects such as The Cancer Genome Atlas, to identify signatures of non-human organisms in these sequences. To develop and implement algorithms based on sequence-dependent computational subtraction and generate a computational pipeline with our collaborators at the Broad Institute, the University of Washington, and Memorial/Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. To work with software engineers to develop a robust genome analysis pipeline for pathogen discovery. To function as primary analyst and/or project leader on complex computational biology projects.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES:
-Uses highly developed computational expertise to design and independently implement research projects that solve complex computational and mathematical problems as they relate to interpreting biological data.

-Independently designs and develops computational, mathematical and statistical methods to analyze biological data and facilitate the interpretation of analysis results.

-Serves as key technical resource for researchers seeking assistance with development and implementation of computational, mathematical and statistical methods and analysis.

-Prototypes software systems and collaborates with and/or supervises software engineers.

-Provide technical management and mentoring for staff.

-Performs other related responsibilities as necessitated by the position.
