<![CDATA[Two postdoctoral positions are available in the laboratory of Dr. Yibin Deng in The Hormel Institute at The University of Minnesota. Our laboratory is interested in the signaling pathways that contribute to p53 function in tumor suppression. The focus of our research is to understand how wild-type p53 controls apoptosis, senescence, and autophagy in pre-cancerous cells and cancerous cells, and how p53 mutations identified in cancer patients that disrupt these processes impact tumor development and cancer therapy in vivo. Our goal is to use various biochemical and genetic approaches, including generation of new types of mouse models that faithfully recapitulate the salient features of human cancer to explore the key signaling pathways that allow cancer cells to escape p53-mediated checkpoints (Deng et al. Genes Dev. 2002; Deng, et al. Cell. 2003; Deng, et al. Nature Reviews Cancer. 2007; Deng, et al. Nature. 2009).
Highly motivated candidates with a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree and strong interests in cancer studies are encouraged to apply. Candidates should have strong laboratory skills in molecular biology, cell biology and biochemistry. Eexperience in cancer cell biology and mouse genetics are a plus.
Interested candidates should submit their curriculum vitae with the names and contact information for three references and a brief statement of research interests and career goals to Dr. Yibin Deng: yideng@hi.umn.edu]]>
