Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position to study motor-mediated microtubule deformations and transport in living cells. The postdoc will be part of a newly formed research group in the Department of Physics at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) that develops novel computational and theoretical models for complex fluids and polymers. The project involves close collaboration with biologists at the WPI Life Sciences and Bioengineering Center, located at the recently constructed Gateway Park in Worcester, Massachusetts, and at other institutions.

A Ph.D. in soft condensed matter physics, biophysics with expertise in coarse-grained simulations is required. Strong programming skills in C and/or Fortran, and the ability to develop Matlab codes is essential. Experience in techniques such as Brownian dynamics, Stochastic Rotation Dynamics (Multi-Particle Collision Dynamics) as well as image processing is a plus. The position is available immediately for one year with the possibility for extension for another year, and is open to all nationalities. Candidates from underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.

This year, Worcester was ranked 9th of America's Most Livable Cities by Forbes.com, because of its income growth and easy access to cultural events. Worcester is located only 45 min west of Boston, it is surrounded by stunning wilderness areas, and is the home to several colleges and universities.

Application including a cover letter, CV (with list of publications), statement of research interests, and names of at least 3 references should be sent to Dr. Erkan Tuzel at biophysics.wpi@gmail.com.
