ACADEMIC SURGICAL PATHOLOGISTS


The Department of Pathology Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Chicago, invites applications for a faculty positions at the Assistant, Associate, and full Professor rank, non-tenure eligible, in the Division of Anatomic Pathology. The positions are full-time continuing appointments. Rank and remuneration will be determined by qualification and experience.  

This position is for surgical pathologists with subspecialty training in gynecologic, head and neck, pulmonary, liver and pancreatic, and/or gastrointestinal pathology.  Applicants must hold MD or MD/PhD degrees and be board eligible or certified in Anatomic Pathology from the American Board of Pathology, and must also be eligible for an unrestricted medical license in the State of Illinois.  

Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the newly completed Prentice Women’s Hospital, the two main teaching hospitals for the Feinberg School of Medicine are located in the heart of Chicago’s magnificent “gold coast.”  The surgical pathology department accessions over 41,000 non-dermatologic surgical specimens and 2,500 consult cases per year, including approximately 20,000 gastrointestinal/pancreatic/hepatic, over 7,000 gynecologic, and 3,000 head and neck cases.  The department is expanding the surgical pathology service to accommodate the steadily increasing number of complex gynecologic and breast cases from the new Women’s Hospital.  The planned expansion of the hospital’s thoracic surgery service will greatly increase the number of complex pulmonary and esophageal specimens. 

Responsibilities of the positions include training anatomic pathology residents and surgical pathology fellows, and teaching medical students from the Feinberg School of Medicine.  The environment for hypothesis-driven basic research and for translational and collaborative research at Northwestern University and the Northwestern Memorial Hospital is outstanding and includes a separate Core Facility for clinical research projects.
