OFFICE OF CHIEF MEDICAL EXAMINER<br> CITYWIDE JOB VACANCY NOTICE</b> <br> <br> <b>Civil Service Title:</b> City Research Scientist<br> <b>Title Code No:</b> 21744<br> <b>Office Title:</b> Molecular Genetics Researcher<br> <b>Work Location:</b> 421 East 26th Street, NYC<br> <b>Division/Work Unit:</b> Forensic Biology<br> <b>Level: I</b><br> <b>Salary:</b> £58,859 (New hire)<br> £67,688 (Incumbent rate)<br> £73,871 (Maximum) <br> <br> <b>Hours/Shift:</b> Thirty-five hours over five days; intermittent overtime may be necessary. <br> <br> Under the general direction of the Laboratory Supervisor for the Molecular Genetics Laboratory, the incumbent for the City Research Scientist, Level I position will be responsible for the following tasks: <br> <br> <li /> Project management, scientific development and validation of DNA, RNA, or protein based genetics tests; Ensures compliance to IRB guidelines regarding human subject research and data confidentiality; <br> <br> <li /> Performs all scientific analysis of the validated tests in the Molecular Genetics Laboratory; Achieves and maintains proficiency on validated technologies; <br> <br> <li /> Ensures compliance to laboratory safety standards and the Molecular Genetics Laboratory quality assurance standards; <br> <br> <li /> Trains staff and interns working on the technologies developed within the Molecular Genetics Laboratory; <br> <br> <li /> Prepares manuscripts for submission to peer reviewed journals; <br> <br> <li /> Special projects and other duties as assigned. <br> <br> <b>QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS</b> <br> <b>1</b> A Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or <br> <br> <b>2</b> A Master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time experience in the appropriate field of specialization, including one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or <br> <br> <b>3</b> Education and/or experience which is equivalent to <b>"1"</b> or <b>"2</b>" above. However, all candidates must have a master's degree in an appropriate field of specialization and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative, or research capacity as described in <b>"2"</b> above. <br> <br> <b>NYC Residency required within (90) ninety days of appointment</b> <br> <br> <b>PREFERRED SKILLS</b> <br> Prior experience with human DNA/RNA based testing on pathology specimen, micro array technology, proteomic study using tandem mass spectrometry, or working experiences in an accredited clinical genetics laboratory is highly desired.
