£67,688 (Incumbent rate)
£73,871 (Maximum)

Hours/Shift: Thirty-five hours over five days; intermittent overtime may be necessary.

Under the general direction of the Laboratory Supervisor for the Molecular Genetics Laboratory, the incumbent for the City Research Scientist, Level I position will be responsible for the following tasks:

Project management, scientific development and validation of DNA, RNA, or protein based genetics tests; Ensures compliance to IRB guidelines regarding human subject research and data confidentiality;

Performs all scientific analysis of the validated tests in the Molecular Genetics Laboratory; Achieves and maintains proficiency on validated technologies;

Ensures compliance to laboratory safety standards and the Molecular Genetics Laboratory quality assurance standards;

Trains staff and interns working on the technologies developed within the Molecular Genetics Laboratory;

Prepares manuscripts for submission to peer reviewed journals;

Special projects and other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1 A Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or

2 A Master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time experience in the appropriate field of specialization, including one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or

3 Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have a master's degree in an appropriate field of specialization and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative, or research capacity as described in "2" above.

NYC Residency required within (90) ninety days of appointment

PREFERRED SKILLS
Prior experience with human DNA/RNA based testing on pathology specimen, micro array technology, proteomic study using tandem mass spectrometry, or working experiences in an accredited clinical genetics laboratory is highly desired. Successful candidate should possess the following; excellent communication skills and a strong sense of team work, excellent IT skills; excellent analytical and conceptual thinking; Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
