    <![CDATA[A full time Laboratory Research Technician position is available in the Laboratory of Dr. Shermali Gunawardena at the Department of Biological Sciences at the State University of New York at Buffalo (SUNY), Buffalo NY. Research in the lab is focused on understanding the role axonal transport defects play in human neurodegenerative disease such as Alzheimer’s disease and Huntington’s and other polyQ diseases using Drosophila melanogaster (fruit fly) as a model system. A Bachelor’s degree in Biology or a related field is required. A solid understanding of genetics, cell biology and general chemistry is essential. Knowledge in neuroscience would be beneficial but not required. Applicants must have strong organizational skills, demonstrate attention to detail, have a strong motivation to learn and must be able to work in a group. Previous research experience is a plus but not essential. Responsibilities include maintaining and caring for fly stocks, ordering and stocking lab supplies, making chemical solutions and performing experiments towards an independent research project.
