FOUNDATION FOR THE NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH
Partners for Innovation, Discovery, Life
Uniquely authorized by the United States Congress to support the life-saving research mission of the National Institutes of Health, the Foundation for NIH is a
leader in the creation of specially configured, high-impact, public-private partnerships in biomedical research.
Some research initiatives require speed and immediate resources and, because of their complexity and scale, can be beyond the capacity of any single sector,
much less any single institution. Foundation public-private partnerships meet these special needs. Each is unique, but all point to the special place
cross-sectoral partnerships occupy in biomedical research.

The Wellcome Trust and global health research
The Wellcome Trust is the largest charity in the UK and the second largest medical research charity in the world. It funds innovative biomedical research,
in the UK and internationally, spending around £500 million each year to support the brightest scientists with the best ideas.
We devote a significant proportion of our funds to research conducted outside the UK and cover a broad range of activities that support global health research, with a particular emphasis on:
- research in infectious diseases, including tropical and neglected infectious disease, animal health, zoonoses and emerging infections
- public health, including communicable and non-communicable diseases
We provide support for the best people and research teams so that, over time, we can help to develop a critical mass in strategically important
areas of the biomedical sciences and combat health problems of regional or global importance.
