The bioethical dilemma

In a Commentary, George J. Annas and Sherman Elias argue that bioethics in the United States is pragmatic, market-oriented and insular. Add embryo politics to the mix, and you have a bioethics so narrow and self-absorbed as to be almost irrelevant to the rest of the world. Annas and Elias say that not all the blame can be placed on President George W. Bush's Bioethics Council, but much can. It should be replaced, they say, by a body that is independent, not 'presidential.
