Polio vaccine cleared

The World Health Organization is optimistic that the six remaining polio-endemic countries will be free of the disease by the end of this year. But the campaign suffered a setback recently when three states in Nigeria suspended vaccination citing safety fears. Worobey et al. present timely evidence that should finally lay to rest the cause of these fears, the theory that HIV-1 crossed into humans as a result of contamination of oral polio vaccine.
