Genomics research: Living with genomics

In a special feature, Francis Collins and colleagues at the US National Human Genome Research Institute describe their vision for the future of genomics research (and present a timeline of genetics and genomics from Mendel to today). The best opportunities, they say, “cross traditional boundaries of specific disease definitions, classically defined scientific disciplines, funding sources, and public versus private enterprise”. They also risk “quantum leap” speculations and predict revolutions yet to come.
