Neuroscience: Along memory lane

Yukiko Goda1

Memories are encoded by efficient signalling between neurons. The myosin V proteins help this process by shuttling receptors and membranes to make synaptic junctions better detectors of incoming signals.

Synaptic junctions transmit information between neurons. The efficiency with which they do this is affected by how frequently they are activated, a cellular equivalent of experience.
