Plant biology: Hormones branch out
Harry Klee1
Abstract
Evidence points to the existence of a hitherto uncharacterized type of hormone that controls different aspects of plant growth and interaction. The hunt for that hormone is heating up.
Plants can't move around and so have evolved elaborate biochemical communication systems to control growth in response to a changing environment. One of those systems involves the ability to make shoot branches.
