The number of biomedical papers indexed in the citation database, Medline, has grown steadily over the past 30 years. A search of 7 million abstracts, using the text-matching software eTBLAST, reveals tens of thousands of highly similar articles (unpublished data), which are also growing in number. Are these legitimate or illegitimate publications?
