Digging deep
As well as the many thousands of human casualties, the war in Afghanistan has taken a heavy toll on the country's archaeology. The collections of the Afghan National Museum were either looted in the war or smashed later by the Taliban, but the museum has been restored and its archaeologists are now trying to rescue their heritage. Nature's Rex Dalton visited Kabul to see the sites.
