Backed by a raft of resources on http://accidentalmind.org, David Linden's book The Accidental Mind explores the thesis that the human brain is a hotchpotch of suboptimal components gathered together by the vagaries of evolution. If your accidental collection of neurons is up to the challenge, try Georg Striedter's review. Though Striedter is not convinced that the brain's design has been compromised that much by its evolutionary history.
