When MedImmune, a Maryland biotechnology company, announced on 12 April that it was looking for a buyer, market watchers were unsurprised. Shareholders had long been calling for just such a sale as the best remedy for the company's poor stock performance and sluggish revenue growth — and rumours of an impending deal were already doing the rounds.
